WHEN MY FATHER AND I PLANTED A PLUM TREE
The annual tomatoes each year gave way to a perennial fascination. My birthday is in winter and my father thought I would appreciate a plant. I thought it was strange planting in the winter when the tree was dormant, but once planted, my Dad exclaimed, "Damon, this is your tree!" I watched the leaves come out the first year, only so exciting. The next year, flowers! And 3 plums!!! The following year, many plums! The third year, so many plums we could not eat them all. I asked my mom what to do, I didn't want them to go to waste. She gave me paper lunch bags, said fill them up, put them in the red Radio Flyer wagon and sell them around the neighborhood for 50 cents. People loved the delicious plums from my tree!
